Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
Monthly payments to those with little to no income and resources and have a disability, blindness, or are age 65 or older. SSI is affected by individuals income, living situations, property and other factors and changes to factors must be reported each month in case of changes.
Survivor Benefits
Working individuals accrue survivors benefits through social security and taxes, which is offered to spouses, children, and parents who are eligible for benefits from the loss of a working loved one. In most cases, funeral homes will report the loss to the SSA if given their SS number. If relatives aren't receiving survivor benefits, they are advised to call their local office to report the loss and see the status of their benefits.
Disability
Individuals with a disability or blindness and enough work history may be eligible for benefits and Medicare based on their work history prior to their disability. Some may be able to return to work or continue working without losing disability benefits.
Retirement
Many are eligible for a monthly check to replace parts of their income when one reduces hours or stops working all together. most jobs take social security tax and accrue those taxes into the retirement benefits.
